WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team got double-digit kills from Jenna Schumann and Hannah Riley as the Red Devils swept the host Lycoming College Warriors on Friday night in non-conference action. DC took the match with set wins of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-7.
Dickinson fell behind early 2-0, before Dessie Anne Nietert, Riley, and Schumann all put away points to push the visitors in front 8-6. Lycoming responded as kills from Brynne Bisel, Sydney Guethlein, and Elizabeth Kelson kept the margin at two (12-10). DC would use a 6-2 sprint through Morgan Biggs, Emma Lange, Nietert, and Riley to open up an 18-12 edge. The Warriors fought back with Arianna Santos, Guethlein, and Kelson trimming the gap to 20-17. A Lange kill sparked a 5-1 run to end the set that was finished off by a Schumann kill.
Jordan Schucker picked up the first kill of the second as the Red Devils charged out to a 5-2 lead. Lycoming brought it back to within 5-4 before Riley scored three of the following four points making it 9-4. A kill from Bisel cut the deficit to 13-9, but then Lange, Riley, and Schumann answered in a big way as DC took a 19-11 advantage. After two home points, the Devils capped the game on a 6-2 run with two kills each from Lange and Riley.
The third set was all Devils as Biggs, Nietert, Riley, and Schumann helped Dickinson jump out to an 11-4 lead. A score by Guethlein made it 11-5, but then nine consecutive visitor points thanks to Elise Butler, Lange, Nietert, and Schumann extending the margin to 20-5. Kelson would notch the final kill of the match for Lycoming, before Emma Popham, Schucker and Schumann wrapped up the match.
Dickinson returns to the Kline Athletic Center on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they host the Catholic University Cardinals in non-conference action.
