Devils Snap Skid With Win Over Bison

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball snapped their three-game skid with a 3-0 win over the visiting Gallaudet University Bison on Wednesday night at the Kline Athletic Center. The Red Devils took the match with set victories of 30-28, 25-10, and 25-16.

The two sides exchanged the first eight points of the match with Christina Chu and Jenna Schumann provided the Devils points. The visitors then went on a nice push of 8-2 finished off by a Karita Lewis kill to take a 12-6 lead. Schumann put away a kill as DC scored four of the next six to close within 14-10. With the Bison taking a 17-10 edge, the Devils responded in a big way with Morgan Biggs, Emma Lange, and Jordan Schucker going on a 10-3 rampage to level the score at 20-20. Gallaudet had a set point opportunity after an Emma Giuntoli ace made it 24-22. DC had their own set point at 25-24, but could not close out the set as Lewis knotted the score. The teams shared the next couple of points before a ball-handling error and a Lange kill gave DC a 30-28 victory.

Dickinson roared out of the blocks to start the second taking a commanding 15-5 lead thanks to kills from Dessie Anne Nietert, Hannah Riley, Biggs, Chu, Lange and Schucker. An Emily Wright kill cut it to 15-6, before Nietert, Schucker and Schumann scored seven of the ensuing eight points to jump ahead 22-7. The sides shared the final six points of the set with Schumann and Riley putting down kills for the 25-10 win.

It was another strong start to a set for the Red Devils in the third with Nietert, Schumann and Riley making it 6-1. A 9-4 Bison push was aided by six DC miscues tied the score at 10-10. Lange scored four of five points during a 5-0 rush giving the hosts a 15-10 edge. After a Malia Zornoza kill, Lange, Schucker and Schumann stretched the margin to eight (19-11).
