Volleyball Wraps Up 2021 With Sweep of Shorewomen

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team wrapped up their 2021 campaign with a convincing 3-0 Centennial Conference win over visiting Washington College on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center. The Devils won by set scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-17. Before the match, the team honored their six seniors Morgan Biggs, Elise Butler, Christina Chu, Emma Lange, Hanna Riley, and Jenna Schumann.

Dickinson fell behind 1-0, before going on an absolute tear as Biggs, Chu, Lange, and Schumann went on a 10-3 run to jump ahead 10-4. A DC service error cut it to 10-5, but then two Riley kills and solos by Butler and Schumann along with a Jordan Schucker ace made it 17-6. The two sides shared the next six points to keep the hosts on top 20-9. Jenna Daunoras and Courtney Maxwell scored four of the ensuing five points to cut the deficit to 21-13. Biggs and Lange each notched a kill down the stretch to finish off the 25-14 win. 

The Devils came out firing in the second with Biggs, Chu, Riley, and Schumann all recording points as the home side took an 11-4 lead. The Shorewomen chipped away at the margin as four DC errors and kills by Daunoras and Maxwell made it 15-11. Dickinson took care of things from there with kills by Schumann, one for Riley, and an ace from Lange capped off a 10-2 charge to win 25-13. 

Lange, Riley, and Schumann each recorded kills as the two teams exchanged points early in the third to stay level at 10-10. Biggs joined the potent duo of Riley and Schumann during a 5-2 push to make it 15-13 home team. A service error along with a kill by Sylvia Johnson brought the Shorewomen even 15-15. For the second consecutive set, the Devils ended on a 10-2 run as Biggs, Butler, Riley, and Schumann all pounded down kills to close out the match 25-17.
