BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team responded in a big way after suffering a setback to top-ranked Johns Hopkins on Wednesday as they dominated the Bryn Mawr College Owls in straight sets on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference battle. The Red Devils won the sets by scores of 25-8, 25-13, and 25-9.
After being tied 1-1 to start the match, Alexa Barowski, Morgan Biggs, Christina Chu, Emma Lange, and Hanna Riley scored the next eight points to grab a 9-1 lead. A kill from Zoe Boxill made it 10-3, before Jenna Schumann, Barowski, and Lange went on a 7-1 romp to stretch the lead to 17-4. The two sides shared the next eight points, prior to Barowski, Riley, and Schumann picking up the final four points for the 25-8 win.
The second set began very nip and tuck as the two sides were locked up at 7-7. Then, Dickinson opened the game up with a 9-2 charge thanks to scores from Emma Popham, Mathilde Verbitsky, Biggs, and Lange to make it 16-9. After a DC error brought the score to 17-11, the Devils used an 8-2 run to take the game finished off by a combination block between Brissa Black and Barowski.
Bryn Mawr began the third set strong with Nicole Wood picking up two kills to take a 4-3 lead. However, Elise Butler, Grace Coccagna, Jordan Schucker, and Lange racked up the next eight points to grab a commanding 11-4 advantage. The Owls would claw back to 12-7, before Barowski, Lange, and Verbitsky embarked on an 8-0 push to extend the margin to 20-7. Barowski, Popham, and Verbitsky kept up the momentum as an assisted block between Barowski and Popham ended the match 25-9.
