Volleyball Jumps Out to 2-0 Start at Battlefield Classic

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team opened the 2019 season with a pair of wins at the Battlefield Classic at Gettysburg College on Friday night.

The Red Devils traded sets with York College in the opener, claiming the odd sets for a 3-2 victory. Dickinson won the first set 21-17 before the Spartans countered with an identical score to knot the match.

The Red Devils held off the Spartans, 25-21, to retake the lead but York responded once again to force a deciding set with a 25-13 decision. The Devils regrouped and posted a 15-7 score to start the season 1-0.

In the second match of the night Dickinson clawed past Salve Regina in a 3-0 sweep. The Red Devils showed great composure, surviving some hotly contested sets. They claimed the first 26-24 and held off the Seahawks with a 25-23 second set.

Dickinson improved to 2-0 on the season, coming out on top of another tough set, 26-24.

The Red Devils return to Gettysburg on Saturday for two more matches. They will face Elizabethtown College at 12:00 pm and then close out the tournament against Gallaudet University at 2:00 pm.
