CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's tennis was strong in the doubles matches taking two of three, but ultimately fell just short of the visiting Ursinus College Bears by a score of 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Hays Tennis Courts.
Doubles (DEVILS 2-1)
Dickinson began the afternoon quite strong as Martine Fierro and Ariana Goitz were too much for Allie Armour and Maddie Russell winning by a score of 8-3. At the number two spot, the duo of Lexi Epstein and Dana Kleinman picked up the second win for the Red and White knocking off Avery Samer and Caitlin Vinsonhaler 8-5. The third pair of Izzy Desjardins and Molly Michel battled all the way against Claire Burke and Shannon Stewart, but dropped a heartbreaking 7-8 decision, which included an 8-6 loss in the deciding tiebreaker.
Singles (Bears 5-1)
The Devils lone victory came right away in the top slot where Fierro dropped Armour in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. At second singles Epstein the lone senior on the Devils roster racked up seven games versus Russell, but came up shy 6-4, 6-3. Goitz dropped as tight a first set as possible to Burke falling 7-6, before going down 6-3 in the second. Anabelle Armendarez pushed hard at four, unfortunately, fell 6-2, 6-4. Kleinman lost at five 6-2, 6-1 and Desjardins gave it all she could in the sixth spot losing a 6-1, 7-6 decision to Ava Compagnoni.
