Abbott-Havers Wins Twice, but Devils Fall to Bears

CARLISLE, Pa. - First-year Olivia Abbott-Havers earned the only two race wins for the Dickinson women's swimming team on the afternoon as the visiting Ursinus College Bears ruined Senior Day for the Red and Black with a 113-90 win at the Clarke Aquatic Center on Sunday.

The day started with the team of Sarah Caron, Kelly Hester, Margaux Reyna, and Norah Wilson posting a time of 1:54.70 to take second-place in the 200-yard medley relay, while the group of Margot Armstrong, Sophie Laclef, Sarah McHenry, and Margie Winter clocked in at 1:59.73 for thrid. 

Caroline Christianson picked up the Devils first individual second-place finish of the afternoon with a time of 11:32.02 during the 1000-yard freestyle. The pair of Emily Carkhuff (11:36.91) and Laclef (11:46.61) occupied slots three and four.

Abbott-Havers first victory of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle when she hit the wall in 1:59.61 to stave off Katie Barlow from Ursinus at 2:02.41. Armstrong completed the podium with a mark of 2:05.55, Hannah Strauss took fifth at 2:05.99.

DC held down three of the Top-5 spots in the 50-yard freestyle with Caron taking grabbing second at 26.13, followed by Wilson (26.56). Reyna took home fifth with a mark of 27.15.

The 200-yard individual medley was won by the Bears' Sophie Lear as she touched the wall six seconds ahead of Maddi Vlattas time of 2:22.63. Carkhuff (2:25.15), Izzy Moes (2:34.29), and Armstrong (2:36.32) also completed the event for the Red and Black. 

Hadley Starr made the most of her first action by claiming a second-place result in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.04. She was joined in the Top-3 by Reyna at 1:05.38, while McHenry clocked in at 1:08.02 for fifth and Winter (1:09 16) took sixth.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Dickinson occupied second and third thanks to Strauss (59.13) and Carkhuff (59.81).

The Bears had a strong showing in the 100-yard backstroke as Molly Stevens won the event in 1:01.34. The Devils held down slots three-through-six thanks to Christianson (1:05.63), McHenry (1:06.78), Julia Ciesielka (1:09.51), and Cate Lord (1:14.00).

DC flexed their muscles in the 500-yard freestyle as Abbott-Havers held off Barlow by four seconds to win the event with a time of 5:24.67 for her second win of the day. Laclef earned a third-place finish with a mark of 5:44.58.

A trio of Devils put forth a solid effort in the 100-yard breaststroke as Hester took second at 1:11.84, followed by Vlattas (1:13.76) and Moes (1:16.88). 

Dickinson ended the meet with a second-place result in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Christianson, Hester, Starr, and Vlattas posted a time of "4:05.42."

The Devils will enjoy some serious practice time, before returning to action on Thursday, February 17th for day one of the Centennial Conference Championships at Franklin & Marshall College.
