Women's Swimming Downed by Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's swimming team had a few second-place finishers, but it was not enough as the host Swarthmore College Garnet earned a 206-55 win over the Red and Black on Saturday at Ware Pool. 

Swarthmore took the top three spots in the 200-yard medley relay before the group of Sarah Caron, Kelly Hester, Margaux Reyna, and Norah Wilson posted a 1:55.22 for fourth. They were followed by the team of Margot Armstrong, Julia Ciesielka, Hannah Strauss, and Maddi Vlattas.

In the 1000-yard freestyle, Sophie Laclef put up a time of 11:42.15 for second-place, while Hadley Starr landed in fourth at 12:13.96. 

Olivia Abbott-Havers finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:59.42 which was two seconds off the winning pace. Caroline Christianson came in fifth clocking in at 2:03.43.

The Devils best performance in the 100-yard backstroke came from Caron who came in second at 1:01.80. The next best finisher was Sarah McHenry in sixth at 1:05.53.

Hester and Vlattas took third and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:11.93 and 1:13.79 respectively.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Starr clocked in at 2:25.72 for fifth-place which was the best result for the Red and Black. 

Abbott-Havers earned her second podium spot on the day in the 50-yard freestyle with a third-place finish by touching the wall in 25.56.

She landed just outside of the Top-3 in the 100-yard freestyle with a fourth-place mark by posting a time of 56.65.  

Christianson and Caron put up strong efforts in the 200-yard backstroke landing in second and third respectively with times of 2:16.72 and 2:17.64.

Two Devils made an appearance in the Top-5 of the 200-yard breaststroke with Hester taking fourth in 2:38.73, followed four seconds later by Vlattas at 2:42.79. 

Christianson was solid in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.98 good for third, while Emily Carkhuff took fourth in 5:40.17.

The 100-yard butterfly saw Swat occupy the top-three places before Starr clocked in at 1:03.92 for fourth. Margot Armstrong also got inside the top five with a mark of 1:04.73.

DC took fifth through eighth in 200-yard individual medley led by Carkhuff at 2:23.70, followed by Caron (2:24.00), Vlattas (2:26.58), and McHenry (2:32.83).

The group of Abbott-Havers, Christianson, Strauss, and Wilson grabbed a fourth-place finish in the final event of the day the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.51.

The Devils return to the Clarke Aquatic Center on Saturday, January 29th at 1 p.m. when they host the Ursinus College Bears.
