READING, Pa. - Emma Cooney and Sarah Cudmore combined for seven shots and two goals on Tuesday night as the No. 19 Dickinson women's soccer team recorded their fourth straight clean sheet of the season with a 2-0 non-conference win over Penn State-Berks at the Beaver Community Center.
The Red Devils posted the first four shots of the match as Lexie Greene and Cooney each missed high twice before Allison Cudmore was denied by Savannah McNeal with 17:37 gone. 21-seconds later Maddi Monka had Berks opening attempt but went wide. Cooney provided the first goal of the night at the 19:26 mark when Sophia Elguera sent a cross into the box that was headed home for the 1-0 edge. PSU got on the front foot after that as Jeyda Duran and Adriana Lepera sent shots wide of Sophia Kavulich who was patrolling the goal for Dickinson. McNeal turned aside Lauren Bracken and Macey Mento went high, prior to Cudmore taking advantage of a failed clearance with a shot inside the left post to extend the cushion to 2-0 at the break.
DC went in search of a third goal in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, but Charlotte Glancey, Elguera, and Cudmore were unable to get a shot by McNeal. In minute 62 Kavulich would finally be tested as she made saves on chances for Emily Clapper and Sara Hathaway. The Devils had a great chance to make it 3-0 in the 66th, however, Cooney pinged her shot off the woodwork. McNeal would be called into action two more times as she shutdown Allie Charnas and Lizzie Rusnak. The Dickinson defense would be stalwart the rest of the night as they did not allow another shot over the final 22 minutes preserving the win.
The Red Devils will look to keep their unbeaten start to the 2021 campaign alive when they host Haverford on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the Centennial Conference lid-lifter.
