(Grantham, Pa.) – The #19-ranked Dickinson women's soccer team made the short trip to face #1-ranked Messiah College on a beautiful Wednesday night. The Red Devils turned in a great performance and played even with the top-ranked Falcons throughout the match, but an early goal would lead the Falcons to a 1-0 decision.

Messiah capitalized with an early goal, but the Red Devils kept coming, creating some strong scoring chances right to the final whistle.

Brooke Firestone put the Falcons on the board, scoring 3:18 into the match on an assist from Sunny Gelnovatch.

The Falcons held a 10-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but the Red Devils would close the gap to 9-6 after the break. Lydia Ewing made three saves for the hosts, turning away two strong chances in the second half.

The Red Devils dodged a flurry of shots to open the second half as Carli Boyer (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) made a big save and the Falcons hit a shot off the post before Dickinson cleared the danger.

The Red Devils countered with a nice attack, but the shot went right into the hands of the goalkeeper.

Meg Tate (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) found Addy Zandi (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) on the six-yard line but another big save kept the Falcons in front.

The Red Devils kept the pressure on as the teams traded possession and strong attacking runs at the 35-minute mark.

The Red Devils stalled another strong scoring chance from Messiah as Boyer made a big save off a defender on the post to keep the deficit at one.

Boyer made eight saves on the night. The Red Devils kept true to form, not allowing more than one goal in any game this fall and just four on the season.

Dickinson moves to 6-1-3 overall, suffering the first setback of the season. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, hosting Ursinus College at 2:00 pm.
