(Newport News, Va.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team played to its second straight double-overtime draw, matching #4 ranked Christopher Newport, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils struck first, capitalizing on a corner kick, just under two minutes into the second half. The Captains cleared the initial serve, but Elizabeth Krause (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) sent another cross to the back post, finding first-year Sarah Williams (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) to give Dickinson a 1-0 lead.
The Captains looked to counter almost immediately but sophomore goaltender Carli Boyer (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) came away with a huge save.
Christopher Newport would net the equalizer, almost in similar fashion as the Red Devils, using a cross to the far post and a header to pull even.
The teams played deadlocked for the final 35 minutes of regulation and through overtime as the Captains move to 4-0-1 on the season.
The Red Devils remain unbeaten at well, standing at 2-0-2 after a draw with Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday night.
Boyer finished with seven saves on the afternoon while the Red Devil defense also cleared a pair of balls off the goal line.
The Red Devils return home to host Alvernia University, next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
