CARLISLE, Pa. - Behind a combined ten goals from senior Alex Goles and first-year Delaney Herbert the Dickinson women's lacrosse team wrapped up their 2022 home campaign with a 15-10 Centennial Conference victory over the visiting Bryn Mawr College Owls at Biddle Field on Saturday. Prior to the opening draw, the Red and White honored senior Sarah Mason, Drew Yager, and Goles as they played their final home game in a Dickinson uniform.
The opening half of the first quarter belonged to the keepers as starting goalies Elizabeth Tompkins and Sierra McLaughlin combined for four saves. It would take until the 7:10 mark to see the first goal as Meghan O'Shea found Camille Franklin. Tompkins continued to be strong between the pipes turning aside Faith Parker, Liv Yeagle, and Herbert to hold the score at 1-0 with 90-seconds left. After Herbert caused an Owls turnover Riley Kuehn put the Red and White on the board to knot the score heading to the second.
Dickinson grabbed their first lead of the contest early in the second when Tompkins threw the ball right to Herbert who notched her first of the game. However, the visitors responded in a big way by netting the next four goals to take a 5-2 advantage with 8:21 to go until the break. Off the ensuing draw, Herbert found Goles who hit the back of the cage, but that was immediately answered by O'Shea to maintain a three-goal cushion (6-3). A yellow card against the Owls led to a player-up situation for DC. Yeagle would miss the mark twice, before deciding to become a helper setting up Goles for the finish. Each side added one more with Herbert besting Tompkins for the Devils to give Bryn Mawr a 7-5 edge at half.
To begin the third the senior Yager took over in the crease for the Red and White. Her teammates went right on the attack with Regan Kawa and Parker both having chances stopped by Tompkins before Herbert buried the rock to pull DC within 7-6. Dickinson continued their charge scoring on three of their next five shots with goals coming from Goles, Herbert, and Yeagle to allow the Devils to reclaim the lead at 9-7 with exactly 8:00 remaining. Yager who was not tested at any point through the first ten minutes of the period was called into action at the 10:56 mark stopping Sierra Hamilton, unfortunately, the rebound ricocheted out to Isabel Shin for the finish. Kawa and Erin Calloway traded markers inside the last two minutes to send things to the fourth at 10-9 Dickinson.
Yager made a save on Shin with just 59-seconds off the clock in the fourth which seemed to flip all the momentum in favor of the Red and White as they recorded the next five shots with four hitting the back of the net with Goles, Herbert (2), and Kuehn stretching the margin to 14-9 with 9:47 to play. Just over a minute later, Orli McGuire-Berk cashed in a free-position opportunity, while Kawa put away a nice dish from Kuehn to setup the 15-10 final result.
