ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had five players record multiple goals, but it would not be enough as the host Muhlenberg College Mules survived a furious late rally by the Red and White to hold for a 16-15 Centennial Conference win at Scotty Wood Stadium on Saturday.
Muhlenberg made their first two shots of the game count with Nicole Steiner and Hannah Wolfe slipping shots past Ella Marks. Dickinson then applied some pressure with Liv Yeagle and Riley Kuehn both forcing saves out of Ellison Ervin, before Yeagle put one behind her with 3:23 off the clock. Off the ensuing draw control, the Mules made it 3-1 through Samantha Eynon. The Devils began a string of four straight markers with 6:09 to go as Alex Goles finished off a Kuehn feed. Then, the Red and White won three straight draws leading to goals for Delaney Herbert, Regan Kawa, and Yeagle to claim a 5-3 advantage with 4:18 left. However, Muhlenberg answered back with four of their own to end the period with a 7-5 edge.
The two sides traded tallies inside the opening two minutes of the second with Emily Gaffney and Yeagle scoring for their respective sides. With five minutes off the clock, Liz Barroll joined in the scoring barrage after Kuehn set her up closing the gap to 8-7. Barroll picked up her second of the contest five minutes later to tie the game at 8-8. Once again it would be Muhlenberg wrapping up a quarter of a scoring run as Madeline Dill, Eynon, and Steiner each bested Sierra McLaughlin inside the final minute for an 11-8 lead at the break.
Drew Yager became the third keeper of the afternoon for DC to kickoff the third and she was immediately tested when Eynon fired a shot that she turned aside. However, the Mules would record the first goal of the period with Dill cashing in on a free-position chance. About a half-minute later Grace Bruther was issued a yellow card which the Red and White would take advantage of when Kuehn found Gabby Guadalupe for the Devils ninth of the day. The home came back with three straight shots resulting in goals from Jillian Kubikowski and Ariella Lerner to give the Mules a 14-9 lead with five minutes to go. Dickinson answered back with the final two tallies of the quarter thanks to Guadalupe and Kuehn to cut the deficit to 14-11 after three.
The Mules were on the attack early in the fourth as they forced a stop of a Yager just 33-seconds in, before firing five more shots at cage with two of them getting to the back of the net making it 16-11. The Devils would not go down quietly though with Kuehn racking up another goal, prior to Kawa adding one to her ledger to close within 16-13 still with 6:09 remaining. After Herbert captured the ensuing draw Kuehn tickled the twine at the 9:13 mark. Muhlenberg locked things down the rest of the game allowing just one shot to DC which did find the back of the net thanks to Faith Parker setting the 16-15 final.
