(Ewing, N.J.) – The #11-ranked Lions of the College of New Jersey had a strong first half and held on as the Dickinson women's lacrosse team played even after the break in a 16-9 setback on Saturday.
It was the first loss of the season as the Red Devils move to 4-1 on the year. The Lions jumped out to a 6-0 advantage before sophomore Erika Bloes (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) broke up the run to put the Red Devils on the board with 10:22 to play in the half.
Senior Anne Dunster (Cos Cobb, Conn./Greenwich) added another as TCNJ took a 9-2 lead into halftime behind four goals and an assist from Alex Fitzpatrick.
Bloes and Dunster traded goals with the Lions in the opening eight minutes of the second half to move the score to 11-4.
Sophomore Mack Maurer (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) scored for the Red Devils and Dunster recorded back-to-back assists on goals from classmate Eleanor Kaestner (Glyndon, Md./Franklin) to trigger a 5-2 run.
Maurer struck again and Dunster tallied her third of the game to make the score 14-9 with nine minutes to play.
The Lions tacked on two more goals for the final of 16-9.
Dunster finished with three goals and two assists while Maurer tallied two goals, four draws and two ground balls. Senior McKenzie Rambusch (Madison, N.J./Madison) controlled six draws while Maddie Parker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) added three and Laurie Travaglini (Darien, Conn./Darien) picked up three GBs.
Sophomore goaltender Avery Priest (San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) came on to make three saves and control three GBs in the nets.
The Red Devils slip to 4-1 on the season. They travel south to face Washington & Lee University on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm
