COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Senior guard Jennifer Kremp netted a season-high 20 points and junior forward Kate Montgomery added a double-double (19 points, 11 rebounds) as the Dickinson women's basketball team snapped their four-game skid with a 68-53 win over the Bears of Ursinus College on Tuesday night in a pivotal Centennial Conference clash at Helfferich Gymnasium.
Clair Marion and Chinwe Irondi exchanged buckets over the opening two minutes of the contest before a Montgomery layup sparked a 14-0 rampage by the Red and Black aided by two Kremp triples to take a 16-2 advantage. Sarah DiLello answered back with six in a row to trim the gap to 16-8. Marion added one more basket with 1:12 left to cap the scoring at 18-8.
The scoring dried up early in the second with a Kremp jumper accounting for the Devils only bucket over the opening 4:24 before Jenna Weinstein chipped in a jump shot to re-establish the double-digit lead at 21-11. The trio of Caitlin Blackman, Marion, and Montgomery pushed the margin to a dozen (27-15) with just over three minutes remaining. Irondi added the final six Bears points, while the combination of Kayla Rose, Blackman, and Weinstein accounted for five points to make it 32-21 at the break.
Dickinson got the opening five points of the third with Montgomery finishing off at the rim and Kremp hitting from downtown to stretch the advantage to 37-21 at the 1:49 mark. The same duo struck again two minutes later with another Kremp trey giving the Red and Black their largest lead to that point at 42-25. Mia Kolb scored her first points of the game to make it 46-27, prior to Kremp's third triple of the frame extending the margin to over 20 at 49-27 still with four minutes to go. An 8-2 Bears run cut the deficit down to 51-35, but then Kremp hit two on the line and Blackman beat the buzzer to make it 55-35 through three.
Ursinus came out of the gates strong to begin the fourth as a Sarah DiLello jumper started a 12-2 run for the home side to trim the margin to 58-47 with Montgomery supplying the only offense for the Red and Black. Kremp knocked down two at the charity stripe and Montgomery added a layup to bump the lead back to 62-47 with four minutes remaining. A 5-0 Bears push brought the score to 62-52 before Blackman knocked down a three-ball and Lindsey Hollenshead added three free throws for the 68-53 final.
