CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team was limited to just two free throws (1-2), while the visiting Washington College Shorewomen went 18-20 to edge out the Red Devils by a score of 48-42 on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center in Centennial Conference action.
Through the opening three minutes of the game, a Clair Marion triple was the only bucket for the home side as DC trailed 6-3. Marion added another basket to make it 6-5 before Mia Kolb gave the Devils their first lead of the day at 7-6 with 4:53 gone. Andrea Prestianne put the guests back on top, but then Kate Montgomery scored four straight to give DC the 11-8 edge. Each side scored once more to leave the Red and Black in front 13-10 after one.
Joy Sanders and Lizzie Hudock made it 14-13, but for the second time in the contest, Montgomery netted four in a row for the 17-14 advantage with 5:40 to go. Dickinson would take a 23-16 lead to the locker room thanks to a 6-2 run to end the half on baskets by Jennifer Kremp, Marion, and Montgomery.
Marion pushed the lead to double-digits (26-16) at the 1:04 mark of the third when Montgomery setup Marion for a triple. The teams would exchange 4-0 spurts with Crystal Jones and Kiersten Rose scoring for the Shorewomen, before Caitlin Blackman and Kolb tallied for the Devils to leave it at 30-20 with 4:24 left. Washington ended the period on a 9-2 run scoring five of them on the charity line making it 32-29 after three.
It would take 2:56 into the fourth until the score would change as Kolb knocked down a shot from long range, followed a possession later with a pull-up jumper to give the Devils 37-29 edge. Serena Pluta and Rachel Thiem chipped away at the deficit cutting it to 37-31, prior to Lindsey Hollenshead finishing at the rim. Four straight by the visitors leveled the score at 39-39 before Montgomery split the Devils only free throws of the game with 2:10 left. Prestianne and Blackman traded buckets for the 42-41 DC lead. However, Sanders hit a jumper to make it 43-42, and then as a team went five-of-six on the stripe to close out the win.
