Strong Efforts From Blackman and Montgomery Can't Get Devils Past Jays in OT

BALTIMORE, Md. - Caitlin Blackman netted a season-high 16 points off the bench, while Kate Montgomery posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. However, it would not be enough for the Dickinson women's basketball team on Thursday night as they fell 66-59 in overtime to the host Johns Hopkins University at Goldfarb Gymnasium in Centennial Conference play.

The game was nip and tuck early with the two sides sharing the opening dozen points with Kayla Rose and Montgomery providing the offense for the Devils. A triple by Clair Marion was the only bucket for DC during a 14-3 Johns Hopkins charge capped off by baskets from Natalie Mann and Greta Miller to take a 20-9 lead with 34-seconds left. Montgomery and Emily Howie exchanged scores inside the final 20-seconds to leave the score at 22-11 after one.

The Red and Black came flying out of the blocks in the second with Jennifer Kremp, Jenna Weinstein, Blackman, and Montgomery all scoring during an 11-0 run over the first 2:46 of the period to close the gap to 22-21. Hopkins responded with a 6-2 push thanks to the solo effort of Erin Walsh to bump the margin to 28-23 at the halfway point. DC closed the half scoring six of the final eight points with Kremp hitting from downtown, while Montgomery and Rose also chipped in to make it 30-29.

Dickinson took the lead twice inside the first two minutes of the third with Montgomery dialing up from long-range (32-30) and finishing in tight at the rim for the 34-32 advantage. A layup from Kristin Ralston tied the score and sparked an 11-1 flight ending on a Diarra Oden bucket making it 43-35 with 3:30 left. Blackman, Montgomery, and Weinstein all hit the bottom of the net as the Devils wrapped up the third with a 7-0 run to close within 43-41.

Buckets by Blackman and Marion opened the fourth for DC as they took a 45-43 lead with 6:39 to play. Howie and Walsh pushed the home side back in front (48-45) before Marion hit from deep to knot the contest. After Blackman put the visitors on top 50-48, the Jays used a 5-0 spurt to reclaim the lead 53-50 with just ten seconds left. Out of a DC timeout, Blackman worked herself open in the right corner and drained the game-tying three to force bouns hoops.

Marion put the Red and Black up 55-53 just 15-seconds in. However, Hopkins answered back with an 11-2 run to lead 64-57 with 31-ticks left. Mia Kolb and Oden each knocked down two free throws for their respective sides to result in the final score of 66-59.
