Devils Rout Greyhounds in Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Having not played a game in 627 days the Dickinson women's basketball team got their 2021-22 season off to a hot start as the Devils took command early and routed the host Moravian College Greyhounds by a final of 66-36 on Wednesday night in non-conference action. It was the first win for new Dickinson head coach Aby Diop.

Moravian took the lead after just six seconds when Sam Osorio finished at the rim. The Devils started out slow missing their first five shots before Jennifer Kremp hit on back-to-back shots to grab a 5-2 lead. Osorio cut it 5-4, but then DC took control as Mia Kolb, Kate Montgomery, and Gina Neigel went on an 8-0 run to make it 13-4. Caitlin Blackman would push the lead to double-digits when she knocked down a triple to stretch the margin to 16-6. Kayla Yoegel split a pair of foul shots at the buzzer making it 16-7 after one.

Blackman hit again from long range, while Kolb, Montgomery, and Neigel each converted layups during a 9-0 charge over the opening 3:47 of the second quarter bumping the lead to 25-7. Madison Amy and Gracie Hezel tried to get the home team going as they cut the deficit to 28-15 with three minutes remaining. However, Montgomery went on a solo 6-3 run making it 34-17 at half.

It took the Devils 2:15 to find a bucket in the third quarter as Montgomery scored off the pass from Kremp, which she returned the favor on a minute later to move the advantage to 38-18. Dickinson continued to pile it on the remainder of the frame closing on an 11-4 push with baskets coming from Abby John, Clair Marion, Blackman, and Kremp to take a commanding 49-22 lead to the fourth.

Marion and Yoegel exchanged scores in the opening minute before Montgomery knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 53-24. Moravian gave the crowd something to cheer about with a 9-2 run finished off by a triple from Jackie Kelly bringing the margin down to 55-33 at the halfway point. Lindsey Hollenshead would deliver from deep and hit two at the line, while Jenna Weinstein and Kremp each finished off layups during an 11-3 charge to end the game at 66-36.
