(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team was relentless on defense, forcing 21 turnovers as they claimed a 78-49 victory over Ursinus College on Saturday.
The Red Devils used a strong start to double-up the Bears in the first quarter, jumping out to a 24-10 advantage.
They played even with the Bears in the second to maintain a 42-27 lead at halftime. 10 players found the scoring column in the first half as the Red Devils used high pressure defense and a balanced offensive attack.
First-year guard Maura Leverone (Herndon, Va./Bishop O'Connell) went 4-for-5 in the first half to lead the way with eight points. Senior Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) scored seven and pulled down four rebounds while classmate Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) controlled five boards.
The Red Devils weathered a tough third quarter, but still outscored the Bears, 12-10, to hold a 54-37 lead heading into fourth. Jennifer Kremp (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) knocked-down a late three-pointer and Mia Kolb (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) made a nice steal-and-score to end the period.
Dickinson regrouped in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bears 24-12 in the final 10 minutes.
Leverone finished with 13 points while Padalino finished with 11 points and six rebounds, going 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Kolb had a monster game on the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive end of the floor. She added five steals and three assists to go with four points on the afternoon.
Kremp hit a trio of three-pointers for nine points and Kate Montgomery (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) finished with nine points and six rebounds. Kate Deutsch (Marlton, N.J./Camden Catholic) tallied eight points and three rebounds while Heiring added six points and eight rebounds.
The Red Devils improve to 12-10 overall and 10-7 in the Centennial Conference. They are off mid-week before traveling to Bryn Mawr College for a 2:00 pm tip-off next Saturday.
