(Selinsgrove, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team turned in a strong performance to close out the semester, posting a 77-62 win at Susquehanna University on Wednesday night.
Junior Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening quarter to lead the Red Devils to a 28-15 advantage at the first break.
Senior Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) hit back-to-back three-pointers and a lay-up to stretch the margin to 44-21, with 2:29 remaining in the first half and the Devils took a 46-25 lead into halftime.
Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) led the way in the third quarter, hitting a pair of free throws and knocking down a three-pointer to put Dickinson up, 54-35, with just under six minutes to play.
Padalino converted three free throws and added another triple to give the Red Devils a 68-50 lead at the end of the third. A slow fourth quarter saw just nine points from the Red Devils, but they hit four straight free throws down the stretch to help secure the 77-62 victory.
Padalino netted a career-high 27 points on the night, hitting five three-pointers and going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Maira had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, dishing out four assists.
Heiring finished with 11 points and Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) reached double-figures with 10 points, adding four rebounds and a pair of assists.
First-year Maura Leverone (Herndon, Va./Bishop O'Connell) tallied seven points, three rebounds and a pair of assists while classmate Gina Neigel (Berkley Heights, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Kate Montgomery (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) added 13 rebounds.
The Red Devils improve to 3-5 on the season. They return to action on January 2, hosting Juniata College at 7:00 pm.
