(CARLISLE, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team celebrated Senior Day but dropped a twin-bill to visiting Washington College in the final double-header of the season on Saturday. The Shorewomen scored five runs in the top of the seventh to claim game one, 7-2, and scored early in game two for a 5-1 win.
Washington scored lone runs in the first and third innings of the opener. The Red Devils answered with two in the bottom of the third to knot the game at 2-2.
Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./William Penn Charter) walked, stole second and came around to score on a single from Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford). Kristen Acocella (Redding, Pa./Joel Barlow) later hit a sacrifice fly to bring in McConney.
The teams went scoreless for the next three innings before a lead-off triple triggered a five-run seventh for the final of 7-2.
First-year Devon Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 while McConney finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, RBI and a walk.
Washington picked up where they left off, scoring three runs on the first inning of game two. They tacked on a pair in the third to stretch the lead to 5-0.
The Red Devils were able to answer with a run in the fifth, capitalizing on a single from Gutpelet who would come around from second on an error off the bat of Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle).
The Red Devils finished the shortened season with an overall record of 4-8 and finish 4-6 in the Centennial Conference.
