Softball Suffers Midweek Setbacks

(WESTMINSTER, Md.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a pair of games at McDaniel College on Wednesday afternoon. The Green Terror took the opener 5-2 and claimed the nightcap 8-4.

McDaniel scored lone runs in the first and second innings and tacked on two in the third to lead 4-0 in game one.

The Red Devils used three singles to counter with a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Devon Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing). McDaniel pushed across another run in the bottom of the fifth.

Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./J.P./Stevens) singled in the sixth and scored on a hit from Paige Hahn (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) for the final of 5-2.

Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) and Hahn each went 2-for-3 while Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Side) went 2-for-4. Vill added a stolen base and recorded four strikeouts in the circle.

The Red Devils had a strong start in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the second. They used walks, an error, stolen base and just one hit to take a 3-0 lead.

McConney had the lone hit, driving in Vill before McDaniel answered with four runs on two hits in the bottom of the second to lead 4-3.

Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./William Penn Charter) singled, stole second and scored to give McConney her second RBI of the game in the fourth.

A homerun in the bottom half of the inning and three runs in the fifth gave the Green Terror an 8-4 win.

McConney had another strong outing, going 2-for-2 with two RBI. Gutpelet finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Lindsay Kucker (Ewing, N.J./Lawrenceville School) went 1-for-3 with walk, run scored and threw a complete game with three strikeouts.

The Red Devils return home to face Muhlenberg College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
