(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Gettysburg on Saturday as they opened the 2021 season.
The Red Devils took an early lead in game one as Hannah Brenner (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) singled and later came in to score as Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) reached on an error in the bottom of the second.
The Bullets countered with two runs in the third and added four in the fourth to lead 6-1. They added a lone run in the fifth closed out the game with three in the sixth to take the opener 10-1.
Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) added a pair of hits, going 2-for-2.
Game two was very similar in scoring. The Bullets jumped out early, scoring twice in the second inning.
Lindsay Kucker (Ewing, N.J./Lawrenceville School) put the Red Devils on the board in the bottom half of the inning. She singled and stole second, moving to third on an error. She then stole home to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Bullets strung together four hits to add three runs in the third and used a pair of doubles in the fifth to add five for the final of 10-1.
Brooke Espenshade (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and Vill each added hits in the nightcap as well.
The Red Devils return to action next Saturday, traveling to Gettysburg for the Centennial Conference opener.
