(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 1-0 decision to force a split with Hood College after the Blazers claimed another low-scoring affair in the opener, 2-0.
The Blazers capitalized on a pair of Red Devils miscues in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead and used a pair of singles and a walk to add an insurance run in the fourth.
Sophomore Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) suffered the loss, despite a solid effort in the circle, allowing just four hits. Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) came on for three innings of relief, booking four strikeouts while surrendering just two hits.
Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) held the Blazers scoreless through 5.1 innings in the nightcap and Milaszewski came on to earn the save, adding a pair of strikeouts in the final 1.2. Kueny had a strong start and worked her way out of the inning when Hood was threatening.
Kiley Banks held her own for Hood as well, allowing just three hits in a complete-game effort. One hit proved to be a big one, however, as first-year Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) led-off the bottom of the seventh with a double over the head of the left fielder.
Seburn moved to third with two outs as Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) grounded out the right side of the infield.
Banks suffered the heartbreak of a wild pitch as Seburn bolted down the line to cross the plate with the game-winner.
The Red Devils move to 5-7 on the season with the split. They are off this weekend before returning to Dickinson Park on Tuesday night, hosting Frostburg State in a 5:00 pm twin-bill.
