Men's T&F Finishes Second at Centennial Conference Championships

(ALLENTOWN, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's outdoor track & field team turned in some outstanding performances to finish second at the 2021 Centennial Conference Championships, hosted by Muhlenberg College. Johns Hopkins won the team title with 217 points while Dickinson finished the day with 187 and Ursinus totaled 147 to placed third. This marks the highest finish for the Red Devil men since 2011.

The Red Devils enjoyed much success, especially in the distance events. Sophomore Teddy Mercer (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) won the 1500 and 800 meters while Julian John (Bang Talad, Thailand/International School of Bangkok) crossed the line third in the 1500.

Jacob Doherty-Munro (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) and Coltin Albitz (Pottsville, Pa./Blue Mountain) also showed well in the steeplechase, placing fourth and fifth. James Marks (West Hartford, Conn./Hall School) and Odin Bules (Union Mills, Ind./South Central) finished fifth and sixth in the 10,000.

Christopher Scharf (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and Charles Scharf (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) ran to gold in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 10,000 meters, respectively, and finished fourth and sixth in the 5000.

Ben Brandeis (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles and sixth in the 110-meter hurdle event while Liam Coulter (Allegheny, N.Y./Allegheny Limestone Central) finished fourth in the 110 and eighth in the 400 hurdles.

Cole Boback (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) had another strong showing in the 400 meters, finishing second while Luke Sternick (Latrobe, Pa./Hempfield) placed fifth. Boback won his second straight 200 meters with Nick Balenzano (Darien, Conn./Darien) placing fourth. Balenzano captured a silver, taking second in the 100 meters.

Boback, Brandeis and Sternick joined Garrett Randall (Gwynn Oak, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) for a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay.

Senior Brock Hartman (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) turned in some strong throws, placing third in the shot put and discus, and fourth in the hammer throw. Ethan Hart (New Market, Md./Linganore) was fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put.

Ben Power (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Kacper Rzempoluch (Princeton, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) earned points in the javelin, placing sixth and eighth. Charlie Miske (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and Ben Sobel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) were eighth and ninth in the high jump.

The 4x400 relay consisting of Boback, Sternick, Brandeis and Pablo Ralda (Alexandria, Va./Justice) finished fourth while the 4x800 combined for third with strong races from John, Albitz, Mercer and Colin Schweitzer (Lebanon, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).

The Red Devils are scheduled to compete next weekend at the Johns Hopkins Invitational.
