Scharf Runs to Win in 5000 at Hopkins/Loyola Invite

(BALTIMORE, Md.) – The Dickinson men's track & field team had some strong performances at the Johns Hopkins/Loyola University Invitational on Saturday.

First-year Nick Balenzano (Darien, Conn./Darien) ran to bronze in the 100 meters, earned a silver in the long jump and placed fourth with the 4x100 relay.

Sophomore Teddy Mercer (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) placed second in the 1500 meters and finished sixth in the 800.

Christopher Scharf (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) won the 5000 meters while Charles Scharf (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) came across the line third.

Kacper Rzempoluch (Princeton, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) threw the javelin 34.26 meters to place fourth.

Ben Brandeis (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and Liam Coulter (Allegheny, N.Y./Allegheny Limestone Central) finished third and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles and had top-10 showings in the 110-meter hurdles as well.

Brock Hartman (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) placed third in the shot put while Ethan Hart (New Market, Md./Linganore) was fourth. In the discus, Hart claimed fifth with Hartman in sixth.

Ben Sobel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) and Jacob Choudri (Albany, N.Y./Albany) both finished in the top-10 of the high jump while Choudri placed fifth in the triple jump.

The Red Devils are scheduled to compete in the Gettysburg Quad Meet next Saturday.
