(Grantham, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team turned in a great effort at Messiah College, but the host Falcons came out on top, 3-1, on Wednesday night. Despite the result the Red Devils turned in some solid performances all over the field and created some dangerous scoring chances all night.

Messiah took a 1-0 lead, just three minutes into the match as Ben Lefever finished an assist from Micah Fitz in the lower left corner.

Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy, N.H.) found a window and ripped a shot off the post before Will Flannery (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School) went upper 90, putting the ball in the right corner of the net to pull the Red Devils even in the 57th minute.

Messiah countered just 45 seconds later and drew a penalty kick, slipping back in front as Cooper Robbins converted with a shot that found its way just inside the post.

Colin Fagan (Chalfont, Pa./C.B. South) dumped a beautiful through pass on a nice counter with 22 minutes to play but the Falcons recovered just in time to knock the ball away. The Red Devils had another strong chance but were flagged for offsides, taking a goal off the board.

Messiah tallied an insurance goal with 16:32 on the clock as Zach Venus placed another shot just inside the pipe to help secure the win.

Messiah held an 18-13 advantage in shots a 4-2 edge in corners.

Senior Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) made six saves on the night. He made a great read on the PK but the shot was about as well placed as it could be, banking off the left post.

The Red Devils move to 2-2 on the season. They return home to face Catholic University at 3:30 pm on Saturday at Miller Memorial Field.
