(COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-9 setback at #15-ranked Ursinus College on Saturday.
The teams traded goals through the opening quarter with Matt Donnelly (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) and John McKee (Virginia Beach, Va./Episcopal) finding the net to keep the Red Devils even, 2-2.
Connor Ringwalt (Springfield, Va./Episcopal Academy) and Will Farrell (Bethesda, Md./Salisbury School) tallied back-to-back goals before the Bears struck twice in the final minute to lead, 5-4, at the end of the first quarter.
Ursinus opened the second quarter with four straight goals to stretch the lead to 9-4. Patrick Mangan (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) finished an assist from Farrell to capitalize on an extra-man opportunity.
The Bears countered with a man-down goal before Skyler Schluter (Summit, N.J./Summit) found the net twice in the final 1:02 of the half to cut the deficit to 10-7 at the break.
First-year Sascha Gannon (Lexington, Va./Belmont Hill) started out the second half to back-to-back goals to pull Dickinson within one.
Hakan Atillasoy answered with a pair to extend the lead to 12-9 at the end of the third.
The Bears scored on the opening face-off of the fourth and tallied the only other goal of the period with just 1:47 remaining for the final of 14-9.
Schluter led the attack with two goals and one assist while Gannon scored twice.
McKee won 17-of-26 face-offs and controlled a game-high nine ground balls. Stroud Corr (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) made 13 saves in the nets for the Red Devils.
The Red Devils slip to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial Conference. They return home next Saturday to face #16-Franklin & Marshall at 12:00 pm.
