Donlon Makes 23 Saves to Lead 'Fords Past Red Devils

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #10-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team saw Haverford goaltender Ethan Donlon turn away 23 shots on Saturday to slip past the Red Devils 12-9 on Saturday.

The 'Fords struck first but the Red Devils quickly answered with a 4-0 run two goals from John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) and a pair from Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster).

Nick Goles (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) traded goals with Sean Mowatt-Larssen to five the Devils a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Joel Mayo (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Berkshire) finished an assist from O'Connell to start the second. Haverford countered with three straight to cut the deficit to 6-5.

Mayo found Tucker Booth (Timonium, Md./Boys' Latin) before the 'Fords struck again to make the score 7-6 at halftime.

Haverford capitalized on a man-up opportunity to tie the game at the 11:47 mark and scored with 9:02 remaining in the quarter to take an 8-7 lead.

The Red Devils tied the game on a rocket from Mayo on a feed from Lockwood. Stephen DeLeo and Garret Trucksess added goals in the final 3:37 to give the 'Fords a 10-8 advantage at the end of the third.

Donlon made five saves in the fourth quarter to hold the Red Devils to one final tally as Lockwood fed O'Connell with 37 seconds to play. The 'Fords tallied twice for the final of 12-9.

O'Connell finished with three goals and two assists while Lockwood tallied two goals and three assists on the day.

Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) had another strong outing with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Bobby Hartwick (Brookeville, Md./Georgetown Prep) added eight GBs going 15-of-24 on face-offs. Goles forced three turnovers as well and controlled three GBs.

Junior goaltender Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) finished with nine saves.

The Red Devils slip to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to #8-ranked Gettysburg College on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm face-off.
