#10 Red Devils Rebound Past Roanoke 16-10

(Roanoke, Va.) – The #10-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team had a great start, coming off a tough loss to #7-Cabrini, taking an early lead on Roanoke College on the way to a 16-10 win on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 3-0 start and led 5-1 at the end of the first quarter behind a goal and assist from Nick Goles (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield).

Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) and Mayo traded goals with Roanoke and Alex Hosker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) finished an assist from Matt Donnelly (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) to put Dickinson up, 9-4, with six minutes to play before the break. Phillips added another goal before halftime to give the Red Devils a 10-6 lead.

Joel Mayo (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Berkshire School) scored off an assist from first-year Tucker Booth (Timonium, Md./Boys' Latin) just 2:05 into the game to put the Red Devils on the board. He found the net off a feed from Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) to stretch the lead to 6-1, just over a minute into the second half.

Senior John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) scored twice in the third and Donnelly added a goal to keep the Red Devils in front, 13-8.

The Red Devils capitalized on a pair of extra-man opportunities in the fourth as Lockwood connected with O'Connell just five seconds into the period and Corey Richards (Wayne, Pa./Haverford School) found Phillips for a 15-8 advantage.

Lockwood completed the hat-trick before Roanoke closed out the game with two late scores for the final.

Lockwood and Phillips each went 3-1 on the day while Mayo added a hat-trick as well. Lockwood tallied five ground balls.

Bobby Hartwick (Brookeville, Md./Georgetown Prep) won 19-of-27 face-offs and controlled 11 ground balls. Junior Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made 12 saves in the nets while Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) tallied three GBs and caused two turnovers.

Spencer Hoey (Macungie, Pa./The Hill School) added three GBs and Jack Doran (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford School) caused two turnovers as well. Phil Regan (Bryn Mawr, Pa.Radnor) tallied three caused turnovers and four GBs.

The Red Devils improve to 4-1 on the season. They head to the Green Turtle Classic at Stevenson University to face Denison University on Friday and Middlebury College on Saturday.
