HAVERFORD, Pa. - For the first time since the 2017-18 season the Dickinson men's basketball team is heading to the Centennial Conference playoffs after a hard-fought 63-57 road win over Haverford College on Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena.
Dickinson fell behind early 6-2 as Jackson Ryan and Nicholas Stewart each hit from long-range. The Red and White stormed back to take the lead 12-6 with Anthony Goeb and Jack Tierney knocking down triples, while Drew Haueisen tacked on two at the charity stripe. Chris Bates and Ryan Trotter traded buckets before Haueisen and Tierney scored for the visitors to make it 18-11 with 6:33 to play. Four points for Nick Kerkorian along with a trey by Brandon Banadda trimmed the gap to 20-17. The Devils ended the period on an 8-2 charge with Bates and Tierney scoring in the painted area, prior to Brandon Wiercinski ending the half with a triple for the 28-19 lead.
Bates, Goeb, and Tierney scored the first six points of the frame for DC to stretch the lead out to double-digits at 34-24 with 17:37 left. Haverford came back with a 7-2 run on baskets from Harry Johnson, Ryan, and Trotter to close within 36-31. The Devils took the momentum back using a 6-0 push thanks to four points by Ryan Robinson making it 42-31. Kerkorian and Stewart tried to keep the Fords alive with a couple of three-pointers cutting the deficit down to 44-39 at the halfway point of the period. The two sides exchanged points for the next few minutes before foul shots by Ryan and Trotter made it 47-45 still with eight minutes remaining. Goeb and Robinson bumped the lead back to five (50-45), before five straight for Ryan tied the score at 50-50 at the 14:49 mark. A three out of the hands of Andrew Gostovich sparked a 9-4 DC run ending on a Robinson driving layup to make it 59-54 just under two minutes left. Kerkorian hit a triple to pull within 59-57, but the Devils wrapped up the game with free throws by Robinson and Tierney to close out the 63-57 win.
