Goeb's Big Night Not Enough for Devils Against Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Sophomore wing Anthony Goeb had a big night netting a season-high 28 points, including an impressive 11-of-11 at the foul line. However, it would not be enough as the host Ursinus College Bears outscored the Red and Black 50-33 over the final 20 minutes to turn a two-point deficit into a 94-79 victory at Helfferich Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Dickinson began the game strong hitting on four of their first five shots from the field to take an 8-5 lead on buckets from Chris Bates, Aaron Bailey, and Jack Tierney. The Devils kept up the early momentum with Ryan Robinson slamming home the ball at the 3:34 mark to make it 14-9. The next two minutes belonged to the Bears as Sean Neylon sparked a 7-0 run to give the hosts a 16-14 edge. The two sides shared scores over the following couple of minutes with a Beau Everett layup keeping UC on top 20-18. An "old fashioned" three-point play from Goeb put DC back in front 21-20 and led to an 8-0 charge ending on a triple by Brandon Wiercinski which made it 26-20. Three-pointers by Kyle Maurer and Neylon bookended a 12-2 run pushing UC in front 32-28 with 5:28 left. Foul shots by Bailey and layups from Tierney as well as Robinson leveled the score at 36-36. The Bears tallied six of the following nine points before Goeb scored seven straight for the 46-44 lead at the half.

A layup for Cole Grubbs 15-seconds into the next period began a 13-0 rampage by Ursinus over a 3:26 span to take a double-digit lead at 57-46. A pull-up jumper by Goeb stopped the Bears for a brief second before they added seven consecutive points to stretch the advantage to 64-48 just over five minutes in. Two shots from downtown by Andrew Gostovich trimmed the gap to 69-56 with 12:21 remaining. Dickinson continued to fight back to get it under double-figures and finally did at the 12:23 mark when Luke Spellman dialed up three from deep, followed by an unassisted layup by Gostovich to bring it down to 78-70. The Bears answered back with a 9-2 run thanks in part to triples from Peyton Vostenak and Neylon making it 87-72. Goeb and Wiercinski cut the deficit to 89-77 with 96-seconds remaining, but that was as close as they would get as UC picked up five of the final seven points for the 94-79 final.
