Men's Basketball Wins Centennial Conference Opener at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Travis Dobbins, Ryan Robinson, and Jack Tierney all reached double-digits as the Dickinson men's basketball team held off a late McDaniel College push to knock off the Green Terror by a score of 70-64 at the Gill Center on Tuesday night in the Centennial Conference opener  

The Devils fell behind early 4-0 in the opening minute, before two Chris Bates free throws and a triple by Robinson gave the guests the 5-4 edge. Three points each by Aaron Bailey and Tierney pushed it to 11-8, prior to a layup from Carter Truby cutting it back to 11-10 with four minutes gone. Three treys out of the hands of Justin Glover along with a layup for Andrew Gostovich capped an 11-5 Dickinson run to extend the lead to 22-15 with 12:39 to play. The teams would share buckets over the next three minutes until a steal by Onye Okoro led to a transition layup for Drew Haueisen to open the advantage up to 27-17 with less than nine minutes remaining. A layup from Robinson made it 29-19, before three-balls by Kevin Salley and David Smoot wrapped up an 11-0 charge to jump ahead 30-29. Brandon Wiercinski got DC back on top 32-30, but McDaniel scored the final three of the half to lead 33-32 going to the locker room.

The opening 55-seconds of the second period belonged to Tierney as he buried two shots from long range to make it 38-33. Dickinson continued to keep up the pressure with Bates finishing off a nice feed from Haueisen, before Haueisen stuck a shot from downtown to open the margin up to 45-37 at the five-minute mark. The Devils kept the Green Terror at an arm's length thanks to buckets from Bates, Dobbins, and Robinson stretching the gap out to nine at 53-44 at the halfway point of the period. Chris McAboy and Dobbins exchanged triples to allow the Green Terror within six 58-52 still with 7:40 to play. A layup from Haueisen made it 60-52, but an 8-2 run for the home team cut the deficit down to just 62-60 at the 17:25 mark. Layups by Robinson and Tierney pushed the advantage to 68-64, before two Dobbins foul shots with 13-seconds remaining setup the 70-64 final.
