(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team played even with Ursinus for most of the game but a late run by the Bears ended with an 86-67 setback on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils had a quick start, forcing an early timeout from Ursinus. The Bears regrouped and pulled in front, 13-8 at the 16-minute mark of the first half.

The Bears doubled up the Devils with a three-pointer and stretched the lead to 19-11 before Ryan Devine (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) knocked down a three-pointer on the other end.

Jack Tierney (Darien, Conn./Darien) drew a charge and had a nice put-back to pull Dickinson within three at the midpoint of the half.

The Red Devils erased a seven-point deficit to take a 28-23 lead on another Devine three-pointer with eight minutes to go in the half.

Devine got hot and buried two more three-pointers around a nice steal on the defensive end for a 34-27 advantage. Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) went to work inside and Dickinson built the lead to 11.

Ursinus countered with a 13-2 run to pull even at the half, 44-44.

Devine went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to lead the Red Devils with 12 points while Tierney finished the half with 10. Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) tallied eight and KJ Holton (Clinton, Md./DeMatha) pulled down five rebounds to go with four points and two assists.

Drummond hit a three-pointer to put Dickinson up, 53-48, early in the second half. The Bears answered with an 8-0 run to go in front, 56-53.

Dickinson hit a cold streak as the Bears took a 68-57 advantage with under eight minutes to play. The hosts added to the lead before Travis Dobbins (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) ended the run with a three-pointer to make the score, 72-60.

The Bears were in control from that point, taking the first game of the season series.

Devine led the Red Devils with 15 points behind five three-pointers. Drummond and Tierney reached double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Dobbins finished with nine points while Bates tallied eight points and six rebounds and Holton added six points and five rebounds. Onye Okoro (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) grabbed five rebounds and scored four points on the afternoon.

The Red Devils slip to 1-12 on the season and 1-5 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Gettysburg College on Wednesday night at 8:00 pm.
