(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team suffered a 76-52 setback in its Centennial Conference opener at unbeaten Muhlenberg on Tuesday night.
Muhlenberg jumped out to a 7-2 lead and led 19-9 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The Red Devils used a balanced attack to keep the margin at nine throughout the first half. The Red Devils made a run and Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) hit back-to-back lay ups to pull Dickinson within three, 30-27.
Matt Gnias hit a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to give the Mules a 35-27 lead at the break.
Dickinson put together a nice run with Drummond handing out some assists for easy baskets to Jack Tierney (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Will Colleran (Wayne, Pa./Valley Forge Military Academy) before finding Dan Conlan (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) in the corner for a three-pointer to make the score 49-40.
The Mules went on an 11-2 run to take a 58-42 lead at the 13-minute mark and continued to build on the lead down the stretch.
Drummond finished with eight points, five assists and four rebounds while Okoro tallied eight points and five rebounds. Sophomore Ryan Robinson (Vienna, Va./George Marshall) had another strong outing, scoring eight points to go with five steals. Bates added four points and four rebounds.
Dickinson hit 13-of-15 free throws (86.7%) but struggled from the three-point line.
The Red Devils slip to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial Conference while the Mules improve to 7-0. Dickinson returns home to face McDaniel College on December 4 at 8:00 pm.
