Early Lead Carries Haverford Past Red Devils

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team had a slow start at Haverford College, falling 82-70, despite a strong rally in the second half on Saturday afternoon.

The 'Fords jumped out to a 19-2 advantage in the opening five minutes of the contest. The Red Devils regained their composure and chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit to five at the six-minute mark.

Haverford built the lead back to double-figures, making the score 40-30 at the break. Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./Pennington School) opened the second half with back-to-back scores before joe Wojciak answered with a three-pointer.

Wright went back-to-back with a layup and a three-pointer to cut the margin to eight with just under 12 minutes to play. The Red Devils continued to grind away, pulling within three on a triple from Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) with 8:41 remaining.

Dickinson kept the pressure on, but the hosts would be able to maintain a lead of between eight and 10 points for most of the remainder of the game.

Wight finished with a game-high 25 points, controlling six rebounds on the night. Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boy's Latin) had another strong outing with 11 points and seven rebounds while Allen reached double-figures with 10 points.

Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) tallied nine points and three assists and Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) added seven points and five rebounds. Ryan Robinson (Vienna, Va./George Marshall) chipped in with five points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.

The Red Devils slip to 9-12 overall and 7-7 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
