Red Devils Pull Away From Dutchmen 84-66

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team pulled away at the end, starting off the new year with an 84-66 win over visiting Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday night.

First-year Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) finished a three-point play to give the Red Devils an early 8-2 advantage but the Dutchmen would settle in and pull even at 13-13 with just over 12 minutes to play in the half.

Lebanon Valley pulled in front for a span of about two minutes before senior Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) knocked down a pair of free throws and fed first-year Jack Tierney (Darien, Conn./Darien) to retake the lead at the nine-minute mark.

The Devils regrouped and stretched the margin to 37-26 at halftime. First-year Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) buried a three-pointer to start the second half and Tierney fed sophomore Chas Battaglia (Sterling, Va./Langley) for a three-pointer to stretch the margin to 18 at the 10:39 mark.

Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) knocked down a three-pointer to make the score. 77-53, with just over four minutes to play. The teams traded field-goals over the last three minutes for the final of 84-66.

Hinckley went 5-for-8 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line to net a game-high 21 points. Wright finished with 18 points, six rebounds and four steals while Bates reached double-figures with 11 points, three rebounds and two steals.

Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) added eight points, three assists and two steals and Drummond tallied seven points, eight rebounds and three assists. Tierney had a solid line with four points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

The Red Devils improve to 5-7 overall. They are home again on Tuesday, returning to Centennial Conference action as Haverford College comes to town for an 8:00 pm tip-off.
