Turner Named CC Football Defensive Player of the Week

(Carlisle, Pa.) – Dickinson seniors Billy Burger (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and James Turner (Ridgefield, Conn./Suffield Academy) were named Centennial Conference Football Players of the Week, following a pair of great performances against Washington & Lee in the season opener on Saturday.

Burger moved from quarterback to wide receiver this season and will also handling the punting duties for the Red Devils. Burger boomed his second punt of the day 74 yards, pinning W&L on its own one-yard line. He averaged 40.2 yards per kick with another downed inside the two-yard line.

Burger caught a pass from sophomore quarterback Robert Geiss (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and came up just shy of the end zone, setting up the Red Devils' touchdown on the opening drive.

Turner was literally all over the field, playing both defense and special teams. The senior linebacker broke the school record with a game-high 23 tackles on the afternoon. Turner recorded eight solo stops and 15 assists, adding a sack and 3.5 tackles-for-loss on the day, including one to force a turnover on fourth down, on the Generals' opening drive.

The Red Devils held W&L to just 238 yards of total offense, adding an interception, two fumble recoveries and three stops on fourth down.

Dickinson travels to Muhlenberg College on Saturday for the Centennial Conference opener with the Mules. Opening kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
