(CARLISLE, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team split a Centennial Conference double-header with Washington College on Saturday. The Shoremen claimed the opener 9-6 with the Red Devils coming back to take the nightcap 11-5.

Washington put three runs on the board in the top of the second of game one. The Red Devils answered immediately in the bottom half, plating three runs as well.

Chris Delsandro (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) drove in two with a homerun to center field and Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) reached on an error and later came in to score on a passed ball.

Andrew Mazzone (Belmont, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) launched a solo shot to left to put Dickinson up, 4-3, in the third.

Washington pulled back even with the help of a single and a triple in the top of the fourth before the Red Devils used a pair of sacrifice flies to score twice in the fifth.

The Shoremen capitalized on a pair of wild pitches to score once in the seventh and produced three runs in the eighth to pull in front 8-6. They tacked on another in the ninth and held on for the 9-6 win.

Mazzone went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while Colin Jones (Herndon, Va./Herndon) went 2-for-4 as well. The Red Devils combined for seven strikeouts with senior Jake Geddes (Darien, Conn./Darien) booking four in four innings of relief.

The Red Devils loaded the bases and Derek Smith (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) drew a walk to give Dickinson a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.

They pushed across three runs in the third as Smith unloaded a two-run triple and scored on a single from Christian Kim (Rivervale, N.J./Pascack Hills).

Washington cut the deficit to just a run, scoring three behind four hits in the top of the fourth.

Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter) singled and later came in on single from Pell to make the score 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth.

The teams continued to trade runs, each scoring twice in the fifth. Delsandro and Lukas Atsalis (West Hyannis Port, Mass./Berkshire School) singled, and with the help of an error and sacrifice fly from Tom Gannaway (Westfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) both came in to make the score 7-5.

In the sixth, Pell singled, stole second and third and came home on a wild pitch. Jones drove in two runs in the seventh and Atsalis homered in the eighth for the final of 11-5.

Pell finished 2-for-2 with two runs-scored, an RBI and two walks. Atsalis, Jones and Delsandro each went 2-for-4.

The Red Devils move to 7-7 overall and 6-6 in the Centennial Conference play. They are currently looking for a make-up date with Franklin & Marshall.
