(CARLISLE, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team had a tough afternoon, dropping two close games to visiting Ursinus College on Saturday. The Bears struck early and claimed the opener 5-1 and held on for a 2-1 decision in the nightcap.
The Bears scored lone runs in the first and second innings of game one to take an early lead. The Red Devils answered in the third inning to cut the lead in half. First-year Kenny Tagliarini (Hopewell Valley, N.J./Hopewell Valley) drew a walk, stole second and came around to score on a single from Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter).
The Bears tacked on two in the sixth and added another in the eighth for the final of 5-1. Cohen went 2-for-4 to lead the Devils at the plate.
The Bears scored an unearned run in the second inning of game two to take another early lead. The Red Devils answered with two outs in the bottom of the third as Tagliarini would plate his second of the day.
Tagliarini singled and went to third on a base-hit from Cohen. Tagliarini made a great slide at home on a double steal to tie the game, 1-1.
Dan Icaza struck out in the sixth but reached safely as the ball hopped to the backstop and later came in on a wild pitch to put the Bears on top 2-1.
The Red Devils produced some scoring opportunities in the final four innings but were unable to pull even.
Ethan Hamilton (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield Twp.) scattered three hits over five innings while recording three strikeouts. Thomas Marshman (Cohasset, Mass./Boston College) and Beau Dana (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) combined for five strikeouts in the final four innings.
The Red Devils slip to 5-5 on the season. They are on the road next Saturday, traveling to Franklin & Marshall for a double-header at 12:00 pm.
