(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team suffered a non-conference setback to visiting Juniata College, falling 12-2 on Wednesday afternoon at MacPhail Field.

The Eagles scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but the Red Devils responded with two in the bottom of the second to take the lead.

Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) led-off with a single and moved to third on a failed pick-off attempt and a wild pitch. He scored on an RBI ground-out from first-year Tom Gannaway (Westfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) to pull the Devils even.

First-year catcher Robby Smith (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) was hit by a pitch and came all the way around to score on a double from Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) for a 2-1 lead.

Juniata added lone runs in the fourth and fifth innings and stretched the lead 7-2 with four runs in the sixth. They closed out with a three-run eighth and pushed across two in the ninth to secure the win.

The Red Devils threatened in the third and seventh but couldn't string enough hits together to cut into the deficit.

Sophomore Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter) went 3-for-5 on the day while Carter went 2-for-5 with an RBI double. First-year Ian Beumee (Danville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) went 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored while Smith reached twice by being hit by a pitch.

Marcus Thompson (Foothill Ranch, Calif./Trabuco Hills) suffered the loss on the hill. Junior Anthony Francioso (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton East) came on to record four strikeouts in two innings of relief after Cole Benner (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) to book a pair of strikeouts in two innings of work.

The Red Devils slip to 15-5 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Friday, traveling to Franklin & Marshall for a 3:30 pm start.
