(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team returned north to some favorable weather and continued its strong run of play, winning the home opener on Sunday, turning back Wells College, 12-8, at MacPhail Field.

The Red Devils pushed one across in the bottom of the first inning as Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) and Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) started things off with back-to-back singles.

Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) hit into a double-play but drove in a run in the process to put Dickinson on the board.

The Red Devils tacked on five runs in the second inning as Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) reached on an error to score Chris Delsandro (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Carter drove in two runs on a single to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Volpe forced another miscue as the Red Devils plated two more for a 6-0 advantage.

The Express used a pair of doubles to score two runs in the fourth. The Red Devils countered with another five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth. Pat Davis (New Providence, N.J./Morristown-Beard) singled and came around on a double from Brown.

Delsandro added an RBI single before Volpe reached on another error to bring him around to score. Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter) drove in two runs to make the score 11-3 at the end of six.

Wells capitalized on some errors in the eighth to score five runs and keep things interesting at 11-8.

Pat Harrington (Long Valley, N.J./Delbarton) and Josh Heath (Warwick, Md./Bohemia Manor) came on to pinch-hit, producing a single and a double to add the final run.

Connor Langan (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) went seven innings to improve to 3-0 on the season, recording three strikeouts. David Farnham (Atherton, Calif./Menlo) and Anthony Francioso (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton East) each recorded a strikeout in relief and Scott Gellman (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) came in to close in the ninth, adding a strikeout while allowing just one hit.

Sophomore Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) went 3-for-3 with a run scored while Carter went 2-for-4 with the RBI and a run scored. Jacobson added two hits and joined Brown to score twice on the day.

The Red Devils improve to 11-2 on the season. They are in action again on Wednesday, hosting Brockport State (NY) on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
