(Winter Haven, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team split a double-header with Mt. St. Joseph on Sunday afternoon, moving to 5-1 on the season.
The Lions claimed the opener 6-1 and the Red Devils forced a split with a 6-0 shutout in game two.
Ian Mustard singled in a pair of runs and scored on a wild pitch to put Mt. St. Joseph's in front 3-0. The Lions used three straight singles to add a run in the fifth pushed across two in the sixth on a two-run homer from Simon Schaefer.
Cohen had two of the Devils' five hits in game one, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Teddy Reddington (Reston, Va./Flint School) recorded three strikeouts in a three-inning setback.
The Red Devils scored once in the third and tacked on five in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 6-0 shutout in the nightcap.
Ben Rappaport (Wilton, Conn./St. Luke's) recorded 11 strikeouts in a two-hitter, going 5.2 innings to earn the win on the hill. Tommy Koide (Morristown, N.J./West Morris Mendham) came on to book three strikeouts and earn his third save of the season.
A single from Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyoming Area) singled, Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) doubled and Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) drove in the run with a sacrifice fly in the third.
The Red Devils loaded the bases in the sixth and scored two runs on back-to-back walks. Volpe launched another a three-RBI double to clear the bases for the final of 6-0.
Volpe went 3-4 with three RBI while Carter went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in another.
The Red Devils move to 5-1 on the season. The Red Devils face Fitchburg State at 9:30 am on Monday morning.
