The battle for the Conestoga Wagon always brings out the best in the Red Devils when they step on the gridiron to face rival Franklin & Marshall. 2014 was no exception with junior running back Cedric Madden '16 running for 158 yards and catching four passes for another 94.
Madden scored three touchdowns, including a school-record 94-yard run to open the third quarter. He caught a 40-yard pass for another score and secured the win with a 27-yard touchdown run on fourth down in the final seconds.
The Red Devils overcame a 14-3 halftime deficit, scoring 17 points in the third quarter and closing out the game when Madden broke free from 27 yards out to put the final points on the board with just 10 seconds remaining for a 27-14 victory.
Madden cut the margin to 14-10 on their first possession of the second half, sprinting down the sideline to break the record after a Diplomat punt pinned the Red Devils on the one-yard line.
Cole Ahnell '15 tossed the 40-yard strike to Madden, putting Dickinson on top, 17-14, with just under seven minutes to play in the third quarter.
Adam Kaminski '15 split the uprights with his second field-goal of the day, hitting from 19 yards out to stretch the lead to 20-14.
The fourth quarter was a defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless until Madden closed the door in the final seconds.
F&M moved the ball to the 50-yard line before Mitch Helmandollar '15 ended the game with an interception on the Red Devil seven-yard line as time expired.
Madden was a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, rushing for over 1,000 yards in 2014 and adding 704 in his senior year to finish with 2,218 for his career. He ranks seventh all-time in career rushing at Dickinson, adding 463 receiving yards to break into the top 10 with 2,681 all-purpose yards.
