Division II Huskies Edge Red Devils 4-3

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's tennis team had a strong showing against Division II Bloomsburg University, but suffered a 4-3 setback to the Huskies. They bounced back to post a 9-0 shutout over Morningside College on Wednesday.

Using the D-II scoring of seven points, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead, capturing the first and third doubles flights by identical scores of 6-4.

First-years Sam Coan (Washington, D.C./Bullis) and Leonid Sorkin (St. Petersburg, Russia/University of Nebraska H.S.) claimed the second flight 6-2.

Sorkin earned a point, winning the top singles flight (6-4, 0-6, 10-4) while Coan used a strong start to win in the three-spot (6-0, 6-4).

First-year Joey Bolanos (San Salvador, El Salvador/Escuelas American) outlasted Ben Tauber in battle in the fourth flight (7-5, 3-6, 10-8).

Against Morningside, the Red Devils swept doubles, led by an 8-2 decision from Coan and Sorkin in the second flight. Neither allowed a point in a pair of straight set wins in the first and third singles matches.

Andrew Lai (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater) added a (6-0, 6-0) victory as well as the Red Devils claimed all six singles matches in straight sets.

The Red Devils improve to 3-5 on the season. They are off tomorrow before returning to action on Friday morning, facing Case Western Reserve at 11:30 am.
